Congratulations to David Ceperley, named a Center for Advanced Study Professor.
Our thanks to David Pines, who generously donated his personal book collection to the ICMT.
Our congratulations to David Pines, who was awarded the 2009 John Bardeen Prize for Superconductivity Theory.
Congratulations to Narayana Aluru, who will be invested as the Richard W. Kritzer Distinguished Professor in Mechanical Science and Engineering on September 17.
Applications are now being accepted for postdocs for the 2010-2011 academic year.
Congratulations to Eduardo Fradkin, who was elected into the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.
The Tuesday Tea begins. An informal gathering of condensed matter theorists and experimentals happens in the ICMT second floor discussion area at 4:00 each Tuesday, while classes are in session in the fall and spring semesters. Thanks to Laura Greene and Karen Dahmen for spearheading this gathering.

Congratulations to Mike Stone, named a 2008 Fellow of the American Physical Society, "For profound contributions to the physics of quantum fluids and to the application of modern quantum field theory to condensed matter physics."
- October 2008...
- The Workshop on Topological Phases in Condensed Matter was held October 24-26 at the ICMT.
- Congratulations to Jean Pierre Leburton, named a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (IOP).
- September 2008...
- The launch of the ICMT is Friday, September 5th at 3:30 in the newly remodeled spaces of the ESB.
- We congratulate Nicholas Fang, named one of the world's 35 Top Young Innovators by MIT's Technology Review. The September issue of TR will feature his work, and that of the other honorees.
- Dale Van Harlingen will be giving the Center for Advanced Study lecture on "Searching for Unconventional Superconductors: A Quantum Map-Quest"
- August 2008...
- Congratulations to Professor Phillip W. Phillips, who has been awarded an American Competitiveness and Innovation (ACI) Fellowship by the NSF Division of Materials Research.
- The remodel of the third floor of ESB is completed and we are starting to move in. We are looking forward to utilizing the great new space, designed for discussion and collaboration.
- June 2008...
The ICMT is sponsoring two workshops this month.

ICMT director, Paul Goldbart elected Fellow of the Institute of Physics (UK) . - December 2007...
A commemorative stamp is scheduled to be released by the U.S. Postal Service on March 6, 2008, with this description: "Theoretical physicist John Bardeen (1908-1991) co-invented the transistor,
arguably the most important invention of the 20th century. Bardeen also
collaborated on the first fundamental explanation of superconductivity at low
temperatures, a theory which has had a profound impact on many fields of
physics." [N.Y. Times article about John Bardeen: When Superconductivity Became Clear (to Some), 01/08/2008]
